Ward committee elections loom

Have a say about what happens in your ward, join a committee this Sunday.

THE ward committee elections will take place this Sunday, 20 November. Ward committees are 10 member committees who sit with the councillor on a monthly basis, where issues affecting the community are raised. Service delivery, roads, water, crime, economic development, the youth and elderly and all spheres of a ward are discussed.

According to uMhlanga councillor, Heinz de Boer, the committee is an ideal opportunity for someone who has the best interests of the community at heart to give their input.

“A stipend of R1000 is paid to each member by the City each month, and training is given to the members. The quorum for elections to take place is 100 people. Ward committees are not political bodies. They are chaired by the Ward Councillor and are advisory committees. You must be a registered voter at the following voting stations to stand for election,” he said.
