Cops crack down on illegal traders

Police arrested two illegal liquor operators during a recent raid.

TWO illegal liquor operators where arrested when police carried out a successful raid in the Greenwood Park policing precinct on Thursday.

What’s more, according to W/O Leon Aud, spokesman for the station, police also detained two illegal immigrants after investigations were carried out.

“Together with Durban Metropolitan Police, Town Planning, the Department of Health and Business Licence Unit we carried out compliance inspections at various businesses in our policing district,” he said.

“Businesses who were not complying with the necessary stipulations on their business licences were given summons and those businesses that were not allowed to operate in any residential areas were given 14 days to appear in court,” he added.

The Department of Health also inspected merchandise at some of the shops to ensure that the products had not exceeded their expiry dates and that the business did in fact have clearance to operate.

Lt/Col Gladness Sibisi said, “We are carrying out these types of operations on a daily basis and want to send out a stern message to those businesses who are operating without the necessary licencing documents that we will not stop until full compliance at businesses in our area is achieved.”
