uMhlanga chefs celebrate Heritage Day

Not planning to braai for Heritage Day? Here are some other delicious inspirational meals to enjoy.

SINCE Durban is home to millions of citizens from all over the world Heritage Day is more than just about ‘the braai’.

There are hundreds of different dishes that can be prepared and enjoyed on the day to celebrate one’s heritage.

The sous Chefs at the Umhlanga SuperSpar paid homage to several traditions by serving up some delicious Indian, Irish, Congolese and South African meals.

“I am so lucky to have two talented Sous Chefs – Jack and Luigi – and together we constantly interact with our customers to stay ahead of current trends. For example, this Saturday, 24 September which is Heritage Day – the team will be showcasing their signature dishes from their own home countries. So for those who are not braai-ing at home, please come in and celebrate Heritage with us,” said chef Damian Connolly.

Some of the delicious meals include, chicken a’la moambe (Congolese), Irish lamb stew, South African shisanyama brisket and Indian mince kebab.

Chef Connolly was born in Fermanagh, Northern Island and was executive chef and head butcher at Old Town Italy. He has a wealth of knowledge and passion for his craft – especially dry-aged meat. He also worked in Canada, on the Queen Elizabeth 2 and at the Michelin star L’Ecrivain Restaurant in Dublin, Ireland.
