City denies mayoral ‘fleet’ allegations

Municipal officials said the allegations are ‘absolute lies’.

THE head of communications at the eThekwini Municipality, Tozi Mthethwa has denied the allegations that the City would be buying new Mayoral vehicles, saying she urged the public “not to be misled by mischievous rumour mongers”.

“Any speculation that the City will purchase a new Mayoral fleet is absolute lies. There is no Council decision to buy new vehicles,” added City manager Sibusiso Sithole.

Mthethwa said an assessment is done on every Council vehicle before they are purchased or replaced.

“Thereafter, a report is sent to the relevant committee as well as the Executive Committee and Full Council. There must be compelling reasons for such requests prior to the purchasing of new vehicles,” she said.
