Fire rips through Durban North home

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within half an hour.

A DURBAN North family were lucky to escape injury after a fire broke out at their Kenneth Kaunda (Northway home) on Friday morning. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen the blaze destroyed two rooms in the house.

“It’s not confirmed yet but it looks like an electrical fault. The family said a new geyser was installed two days ago, but it’s not clear if that had anything to do with the fire. The fire completely gutted two rooms but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 20 minutes. Thankfully no one was injured in the blaze,” he said.

“Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services were called to the scene shortly after 9am, after neighbours spotted smoke coming from the roof of the home. The blaze contained to two rooms of the home were vacant at the time, with the homeowners at work,” he said.
