Man robbed of gun and pack of toilet rolls

The man was allegedly held up in the parking lot of Hyper by the Sea.

POLICE are investigating a case of armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Hyper by the Sea where a man alleged he was robbed at gunpoint. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, the victim claimed he was accosted by a man in the parking lot.

“The suspect accosted the man as soon as he got out of his vehicle. The suspect told the man to be quiet and removed his firearm. He also took a packet of toilet paper and fled on foot. A case of robbery has been opened but we are also investigating a case of negligent loss of a firearm,” he said.

Deokaran added this was the second case of negligent loss of a firearm, following another incident in the toilets at Hyper by the Sea.

“The gun was recovered by cleaners in the toilets on Wednesday. The gun, which was loaded, was handed over to us and we have traced the owner of the firearm. We have opened a case of negligent loss of a firearm. This case is not related to the alleged robbery in the parking lot which took place a few days earlier,” he said.
