Culpable homicide opened following M41 fatality
Police launch investigation into horrific weekend crash.
DURBAN North SAPS has confirmed they have opened a case of culpable homicide against a driver involved in a fatal accident on the M41 on Saturday night. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the victim of the crash has also been named.
“The victim, Junaid Essack, went into cardiac arrest following the rear end collision and despite another motorist’s attempts to perform CPR on him he succumbed to his injuries. We have opened a case of culpable homicide following his death. Preliminary investigations revealed the driver of the vehicle that rear ended Essack’s car was not drunk. Our investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident,” he said.
According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, reports from the scene indicate that a vehicle rear-ended another causing it to crash into the barrier.
“Two passengers who were entrapped were seriously injured and had to be freed by paramedics using the Jaws of Life,” he said.
