Jesse Clegg to debut at Barnyard

You wont want to miss Jesse Clegg in action at The Barnyard.

ON Friday, 9 September The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway will host Jesse Clegg for the first time. His father Johnny Clegg performed to sold-out shows at the venue in 2015 and Jesse Clegg released his new album, Things Unseen, on 1 June, which is the first locally recorded album since his first album, When I Wake Up. Descending from a musical family, Jesse spent the first six years of his life on tour with his father, iconic South African singer Johnny Clegg.

This singer-songwriter’s 2008 debut album, When I Wake Up, and his 2011 follow-up, Life On Mars, both made the 28-year-old a platinum-selling success in South Africa – a considerable feat in a market where rock is a niche genre. Things Unseen, features ten original tracks, with Use Me and Souvenir being the first two singles released last year. His latest single, Breathing featuring Shekhinah was released on Saturday, 14 May, to an amazing response which saw the song play listed immediately.

The latest offering was released as Jesse returned off of a massive North American tour, which saw him play 35 shows and drive over 27000 kilometres. Jesse has a widespread influence in his music, but this album showcases just how multi-talented he is. “I’ve always been musically curious in my writing and this album explores a diverse range of song styles and genres, there are influences of urban house, contemporary electro, indie rock and folk music,” said Jesse.

Tickets are R150 per person, and seating will be as for normal shows, with no standing room. For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway.
