Imagine eating ‘Dinner in the Dark’?

The event will see sighted people enjoying part of their dinner in darkness.

IMAGINE a world of heightened smell, taste, sound and texture but no sight. That is what every day is like if you are blind. The KZN Blind and Deaf Society is holding an event in which sighted people can share the of what it feels like to be blind. Guests will enjoy a sumptuous meal and a programme filled with music, entertainment and an unforgettable auditory experience.

Dinner in the Dark will be held at the Great Ilanga, Elangeni Hotel, on Saturday, 10 September 2016. It promises to be a grand affair bringing together various corporates who want to experience something a little different. The format of the evening is a dinner and dance where guests will have the opportunity to enjoy part of their dinner in darkness, allowing them to use their remaining senses heightened by the absence of sight. This situation, exceptional for the sighted, will encourage the guests to empathise with blindness and understand how difficult simple tasks like eating, cutting or simply conversing can be.
