Memorial held for eMdloti swimmer

He was swept away by a strong rip current on Sunday and has still not been found.

A MEMORIAL was held by the family of a man who was swept out to sea in eMdloti on Sunday. Rylan Moses, 19, who was down on holiday from Johannesburg, was with his friend, when they got into difficulty. He was swept away by a strong rip current and despite a massive search effort involving members of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), SAPS Search and Rescue, and other local rescue personnel, the holidaymaker has still not been found.

His friend, who also got into breathing difficulty, was rescued by local lifeguards who secured him with a flotation device, but as the other lifeguard got near the teenager, he disappeared under the water and was swept away by the strong current

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, the teenager was presumed drowned.

“His family had to return to Johannesburg and his family held a memorial in honour of him. We’ve opened a missing persons case. Unfortunately there has been no sign of Rylan despite several searches for him,” he said.
