Road closures set for Tuesday

Roads around the Durban City Hall will be closed during the inauguration of new ward councillors.

RESIDENTS and motorists are urged to be aware of the planned temporary road closures on Tuesday, 23 August during the official inauguration of 220 councillors who will serve in the eThekwini Municipality Council for the 2016-2021 term of office.

The inaugural Council sitting will take place at the Durban City Hall and road closures around the City Hall will be in place from 5am to 3pm.

From 5am no parking will be permitted on both sides of Dr Pixley Kaseme Street (West Street), between Dorothy Nyembe Street (Gardner Street) and Samora Machel Street (Aliwal Street), on the north side of Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street) between Samora Machel Street and Dorothy Nyembe Street. No parking will be allowed on the east side of Dorothy Nyembe Street between Dr Pixley KaSeme Street and Anton Lembede Street.

From 7am Dr Pixley Kaseme Street at Dorothy Nyembe Street will be closed off to motorists. Motorists will be diverted east upon Dorothy Nyembe Street. Motorists are urged to use other available alternative routes to avoid congestion.

For more information residents can contact the Metro Police headquarters and Special Events office on 031 311 2992. Metro Police officers will be on hand to assist motorists and to divert traffic.
