Three-week long petrol workers’ strike, over

Ceppwawu sends its members back to work after reaching an agreement with National Petroleum Employers’ Association.

THE strike by wokers belonging to the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (Ceppwawu), has ended. This morning the union confirmed that it has accepted a seven per cent wage increase proposed by National Petroleum Employers’ Association.

This will mark the end of the three week strike that created panic amongst motorists at its inception fearing that they would run out of fuel. While some petrol stations ran out of petrol in Gauteng, the strike had little impact in KwaZulu-Natal.

Ceppwawu’s Jerry Nkosi said all their members were expected to be back at work by Monday.
