Get verified on Twitter

What you need to know about the verification process.

THE highest nod that users can get in the Twitterverse is the elusive verified ‘blue tick’.

The verified tick is reserved only for the most elite, such as major brands, politicians celebrities and in some cases journalist or social media stars.

The purpose of the desired tick is to prove that the profile is indeed owned by the person or company it claims to represent – as Twitter fans will know there are thousands of parody and fake accounts for certain celebrities.

How does a person get verified? According to the FAQ on its website, Twitter ordinarily concentrates on “highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.”

The most important key is to remain active on the social media platform. If you don’t tweet regularly you most certainly won’t stand a chance.

Users who think they qualify can send a message to @verified to query their eligibility.

To be able to qualify, your account must have the following: a verified phone number, a confirmed e-mail address, a bio, a profile photo, a header photo, a birthday (for accounts that are not company, brand, or organization accounts), a website, and tweets set as public in Tweet privacy settings.
