Señors t-off for charity

The Mexican-themed fundraiser was supported by 108 locals.

THE 31 Club’s annual men’s golf day was a swinging success, with the organisation raising over R30 000 on the day. The Mexican-themed fundraiser was supported by 108 locals.

“We are thrilled with the turnout. The men’s golf day is always a biggie and well-supported by the community. We would like to thank everyone who supported the initiative,” said Monika Davies, co-chairlady of the NPO.

Every year, the club hosts several events to raise funds used to support dozens of organisations within the greater Durban area, including the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, CHOC, Highway Hospice and Durban Child and Youth Care Centre.

This year, said Davies, the volunteers are focusing their efforts on adult skills development programmes. “We are encouraging anyone who runs or is involved in adult skills development programmes or organisations and need assistance to contact us.”

In February, the club’s first fundraising event of the year, ‘Dare to Love Yourself’, raised R90 000. During the second event, Tutti Fruitti Ladies’ Golf Day Fundraiser at the Mount Edgecombe Golf Club, the ladies managed to raise a whopping R85 000.

The 31 Club is a registered non-profit organisation formed in 1962 by a group of women under the chairmanship of Norma Rattray. The group strives to raise funds for various organisations and charities in KwaZulu-Natal. As the group consisted of 31 volunteers, the club was named accordingly and membership remains at a maximum of 31 members who work on a regular voluntary basis.
