Mmusi harassed by Twitter after contact details go viral

Twitter has a field day with the leader of the Democratic Alliance after his contact details are leaked online.

THE Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane made headlines over the weekend, but for all the wrong reasons. The 36-year-old was inundated with calls and text messages on numerous issues after his cell phone number was made public on Twitter. A Twitter user, under the handle @CallMmusiBack, published Maimane’s details, causing a frenzy.

Many users earlier in the week had criticized the opposition party for calling and SMSing citizens as part of its campaign strategy.

Some Tweeps also noticed that Maimane’s number ended in 1652, the year Jan van Riebeeck arrived on the shores of the Western Cape. His arrival marked the beginning of permanent European settlement in the region and overtaking the Khoisan land. The phone number has since been shut down.
