2 killed, 25 injured in horror North Coast Road accident

Fully loaded bus collides with two cars on North Coast Road just before midnight.

TWO men were killed and 25 people were injured after a bus collided with two cars on North Coast Road near Stanhope Place on Friday evening. According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director, Rescue Care and Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene just before 11pm to find chaos.

“A fully loaded bus had collided with two cars along North Coast Road. On assessment the two occupants from one of the cars who were found to have multiple critical injuries, one had passed away before paramedics arrived.

“Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the other critically injured passenger for close to 45 minutes, however, he too passed away on the scene. Approximately twenty five passengers from the bus had sustained various injuries and were stabilised on scene before being transported to various hospitals,” he said.

According to Athlenda Mathe, media liaison officer for Netcare 911, the second critically injured passenger went into cardiac arrest.

“The passenger of the vehicle, who was in a critical condition, went into cardiac arrest while paramedics were attending to him. Multiple life-saving techniques to save him were used but sadly there was nothing more that could be done,” she said.

The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage and the scene was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation.
