Resident escapes attempted hijacking

The hijackers tried to break the victim's car window as he was parked outside his home

A GREENWOOD Park resident thwarted the efforts of three would-be hijackers when they targeted him outside his Havelock Road home on Thursday night.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, one of the suspects approached the unsuspecting victim from the drivers side door and tried to smash in the window, but failed.

“The suspects fled in their getaway vehicle, a silver Polo, when the driver started hooting,” he said.

It is unknown if the suspects were armed.

This follows a violent double hijacking and murder in Kenville last week. One man was assaulted while another was shot and killed during the wave of hijackings.
