Youth Day celebrations with 5 local bands

Head just 30 minutes out of Durban to catch five of the province’s top bands in action.

ON Youth Day, 16 June, five Durban bands will be in action at the Shongweni Farmers’ & Craft Market.

Running from 10am to 5pm, the line-up includes Rubber Duc, whose quirky and catchy songs have taken the South African music scene by storm, as well as The Lectric Monks, a vibey, upbeat folk band from Pretoria that’s guaranteed to make you want to get up and dance.

Also on the bill are crowd-pleasers, Black Whiskey, acoustic duo, Qadasi & Maqinga, performing a fusion of maskandi and folk, and to top it all off, the Celtic sounds of the 1 Med Pipe Band.

With its charming country setting, the venue is just half an hour from Durban and offers large covered seating areas, lush open spaces and fantastic views of Kirk Falls. There will also be a fun kids’ zone, as well as a wide variety of stalls selling delicious artisan food and beverages.

Advance tickets cost R70 for adults and R30 for kids under 12. These are available through Computicket and at the Shongweni Market every Saturday leading up to the event. Tickets will also be on sale at the gate on the day – adults pay R100 and kids R30. Children under four get in free.

Gates open at 9am. No food, beverages or chairs may be brought into the venue, but blankets are welcome. For more information, visit www.c-weed.com or contact 031 563 0824.
