‘Legendary’ Samaritan returns lost wallet

The gardener created a sign and did what few people would have bothered to do.

A LOCAL man, known only as Sifiso, has restored some faith in humanity after he went above and beyond to return a wallet he found at the Sunningdale Medical Centre on Friday last week.

The wallet in question was dropped by Sunningdale resident, Ian Edwards, and later found by the good Samaritan.

Sifiso is said to have searched the wallet for any details that would help him to make contact with the owner, but when his efforts were unsuccessful he devised a new plan to track Edwards down.

According to the resident, Sifiso, who is believed to a gardener, bought a white board to create a sign that read, ‘If lost your wallet Mr IC Edwards’. With it he stood at the Sunningdale robots on Monday morning in the hopes that Edwards would drive past and spot him.

“He had hundreds of options available to him when he found the wallet. He could simply have left it or handed it in at the centre, but he was incredibly proactive. He used his day off and got up early to stand at the robots at around 6am to find me. I really think that he is a legend,” said Edwards.

While Edwards did not drive past the robots that morning, his brother as well as a friend did. Both spotted Sifiso and alerted Edwards, who immediately headed to the robots to find the compassionate stranger.

A Facebook post shared by Edwards has since exploded with hundreds of positive comments from the community as well as thousands of likes.

Facebook exploded with comments:
Shannon Dickson: Wow Ian, this is virtually unheard of. Just restores your faith in humanity. That’s fantastic. You’re the man Sifiso!
Joyce Edwards: WOW! Sifiso you are awesome! WOW again!
Melanie Smith: One in a million! You are a true reflection about our rainbow nation. Thank you Sifiso for you honesty and dedication to do the right thing. God bless you.
Shane Dresner: When I left home at 6am he was walking up The Curl and when I went past he held the sign high to be able to read it. Well done.
