Crusaders down Jaguars in Sydenham

Crusaders win their third game on the trot.

THE PhotoNote Crusaders won their third back-to-back game on Friday night beating the Fidelity Security Jaguars in a bruising encounter in Sydenham. The Durban North team overturned a deficit of seven points in the first half to close out the game 26-16. What’s more, Chris van Niekerk, who has is having a sterling season for the men in blue kept up his enviable record of scoring in every game this Fidelity Security Moor Cup. Van Niekerk scored two tries on the night to take his tally to seven this season so far.

However they did not have it all their way as the Jaguars proved their mettle in the first half scoring two tries and slotting over a penalty through the boot of Rameez Nell. The home team looked to be bossing it out on the field but the second half team talk of ’Saders coach, Shaun van Rensburg, seemed to spur on his charges.

Two tries from Van Niekerk and a penalty from Hennie ‘Bakkies’ Botha were enough for the team from the North to keep up their impressive momentum.

“This is what I wanted from the boys. We weren’t a hundred per cent clinical but we came out all guns blazing in the second half. I was very disappointed with our performance in the first game, we looked flat and credit to the Jaguars, they played phenomenal rugby. In the second half though we began to dominate the breakdown and we chipped some clever kicks in behind them. I’m very proud of my team and how they responded to the scoreboard pressure. I’m looking forward to next week where we play Toti, which is going to be a humdinger,” he said.
