Durban North water woes due to vandalism

Several roads near the Broadway precinct have been affected by the vandalism.

PARTS of Durban North that have had little or no water since the water restrictions were put in place last week are suffering because of vandalism. That’s according to ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, who said the thieves had vandalised a valve that has affected the water pressure.

“The pressure control valve supplying parts of the Durban North area (Hoylake Drive) have been vandalised. The pressure in the area is currently low and I’ve had complaints from several residents in Gleneagles Drive and Balgownie Crescent, as well as some on Swapo Road (Broadway). I’ve been assured by the city that emergency repairs to the PRV are being attended to,” he said.

Other areas, including uMgeni Park, have also experienced loss of water pressure and in some instances no water at all. Currently, the city limits water to a number of areas every night between 9pm and 4am.

“It would appear that the shutting off of water at night is causing a knock-on effect on pipes. Myself and fellow councillor, Heinz de Boer, are compiling a list of complaints in the hope to of holding a public meeting about the issue,” he said.
