Fairytale ending for beauty queens

Former Greenwood Park Primary pupils win big at beauty pageant.

MODELS Christin Robson and Jamie de Bruine have made history, becoming the first models from Greenwood Park to win the Miss Petite Teen South Africa and Miss Junior South Africa titles at a recent event hosted by Pageant SA. The duo won several other accolades on the night and now hope to use their platforms to promote their charity work.

For Jamie, it was her first time entering the Miss Junior SA competition. “I was shocked, I felt like I was dreaming when they called out my name. I remember crying because I was overwhelmed with emotion. I had so many strong, beautiful and independent women in my group that I didn’t think I’d get to be crowned the winner.”

The 19-year-old also won the Best of the Best Senior Female award as well as the Overall Highest Scoring Female award. The win though has also strengthened her resolve to continue to raise awareness for her charity work.

“I hope to use my platform to highlight the importance of the Domino Babies’ Home and Westville Babies’ Home. Both these charities are close to my heart and there’s very little attention on the amazing work these non-profit organisations do,” she said.

Durban North College pupil, Christin, who was crowned Miss Petite Teen said winning was a dream come true.

“This means so much to both Jamie and I. I remember watching Jamie being crowned the winner and crying and she doing the same when I was crowned the winner. This was my third year in the competition and I think it’s helped me gain confidence and become a more strong willed person. I want to inspire other young girls to follow their dreams and to tell them to never give up,” Christin said.

The 13-year-old added she would like to raise awareness for the charity Dignity Dreams, which distributes reusable sanitary packs to disadvantaged communities.

“I don’t think many people realise the struggles of girls and women in disadvantaged communities not having access to sanitary items. This initiative was something driven by Pageant South African and I feel it’s an important tool in raising awareness,” she said.
