Man stabbed and assaulted on Lagoon Drive

The victim chased after the men after being robbed and was stabbed in the ensuing altercation.

POLICE are searching for two suspects believed to be behind a robbery and violent assault of a man on Lagoon Drive on Sunday night. The incident occurred at about 8.15pm at the uMhlanga taxi rank, confirmed Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

“The victim was on his way to meet his friend for drinks and was at the taxi rank when he was approached by two men, one of whom was armed, who demanded his valuables. They took his cellphone and wallet and began walking away. The victim chased after the men in an effort to get his belongings back.

“An altercation ensued and the robbers began stoning him. He was struck a few times in the face and then one of the men stabbed him before running away. The man passed out from his injuries and was later found by his friend, lying on the pavement,” he said.

A case of robbery has been opened at the Durban North police station.
