‘Good guys’ clinch 7th successive title

Local cricket club wins ninth premier league title in 11 years.

THE Hollywoodbets.net Crusaders first team secured their seventh consecutive Premier League title with one game to spare, defeating UKZN by seven wickets last week. The ‘Good Guys’, as they are known in cricketing club circles, also secured their ninth title in 11 years. Their incredible win now means that they will be travelling to the Momentum National Club Champs to defend their 2014/15 title.

Mike Alexander, Crusaders captain, who scored a career-best 159 two weeks ago, backed up his impressive performances with a half-century against UKZN. Alexander finished as one of the top runs-scorers in the Premier League, amassing more than 500 runs. Crusaders bowlers, Nick Hewer and Jason Biddulph, were also in the top three wicket-takers in the competition.

“We are ecstatic to wrap up the title, it’s been a hard-fought season. We’ve had our fair share of injuries and it’s certainly been one of the more contested seasons. We are a good strong unit and we play for each other and the badge.

“There’s been quite a transition this year with some senior players hanging up their boots. We’ve worked incredibly hard and we have been consistent in our selection, so to end the season on such a high with a game to spare is just fantastic,” he said.

Alexander added that the support from older players and the board bolstered the team, especially when the chips were down.

“I think the fact that we can call on players with such depth is an added bonus, I’m fortunate to have the backing of the board and the senior players. This title is testament to their support and this team’s incredible belief. Our focus now is on the club champs and possibly bringing home another title,” he said.
