Durban North woman held up by armed gang

The woman was reportedly ambushed by a five-man gang armed with knives and firearms.

A DURBAN North woman escaped unscathed after a gang of armed robbers held her up outside a business premises in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The woman was reportedly ambushed by five men while locking up the premises at around 2am, said Brian Jackson, Blue Security’s operations manager.

“The gang was armed with firearms and knives and grabbed her handbag containing three cell phones, her car keys and cash before fleeing the scene,” he said.

According to Jackson, this was the third contact crime reported in the area in recent weeks.

This follows the shocking drive-by shooting of a La Lucia resident on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Saturday at around noon. Armed robbers driving a silver VW Golf opened fire on the vehicle after the victim was reportedly driving home from the bank.

On Thursday last week, shots were also fired during a hijacking in Desai Crescent in Effingham Heights.

“In the first incident, the motorist managed to escape safely to his home without injury and the robbers fled the scene. In the earlier incident, a woman arrived to drop off her grandson at home when armed robbers in a red Corsa stopped behind her. They fired three shots and hijacked her of her car,” he said.

Jackson confirmed that there were no injuries reported at either incident.
