Armed men open fire on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

It is believed the armed men were targeting a victim who had just visited a vault near Gateway.

A GROUP of armed men wearing balaclavas were involved in a shooting on the corner of Umhlanga Rocks Drive and Village Way in Sunningdale on Saturday afternoon. Several vehicles were caught in the crossfire and the victim, who was being followed by the armed men, also miraculously escaped injury. His vehicle, a white Mercedes Benz, was riddled with bullets.

It’s believed the victim had been to Gateway where he visited a vault which provides exclusivity to high-end clientele. Police have declined to comment, saying the situation was tense.

A suspect wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a high-powered rifle (thought to be an AK-47) was seen opening fire on the vehicle by witnesses on the scene.

The suspects drove down Sagewood Way and the victim drove towards La Lucia.

The victim’s back tyres had been shot out and his car was hit more than 15 times. He escaped with minor cuts and bruises from the shattering glass.
