Elderly couple robbed on uMhlanga beach

A walk on the beach turned into a nightmare for a couple who were attacked by a man wielding a pair of scissors.

AN elderly couple were robbed by an armed man as they were walking towards the uMhlanga Lagoon on Thursday at about midday. The man allegedly appeared out of the bushes and brandished what the elderly couple believed to be a knife, which later turned out to be a pair of scissors.

“He demanded their valuables and took their rucksack containing their cameras and wallets. He then fled into the bushes. The uMhlanga UIP, together with the Enforce Security and the CPF did a thorough search of the area up to Choppers Town with no result,” explained CPF member, Dewet Geldenhuys.

“During our search we found a reversible jacket as well as a pair of scissors in the pocket from the bushy area close to the lagoon. Thankfully the couple were not harmed in the incident and there is now additional security in the area.”

A case of robbery has been opened at the Durban North SAPS.
