Happy ending for N2 rescue pooch

Fairy-'tail' ending for dog rescued from the side of the N2 freeway.

THERE were tears of joy at the Durban & Coast SPCA offices this week as Nandi, the dog rescued from the side of the N2 freeway, was adopted. The six-month-old cross-breed, who was rescued almost two weeks ago, had been stuck in the drain on the N2 near Nandi Drive for several days without any food or water, and was too weak to even lift her head. Incredibly, rescuers were only alerted to her presence after a car crash on the highway as the motorists were exchanging details.

Lindsey Fogarty of Durban & Coast SPCA said the sweet pooch was adopted by Johannesburg resident, Nathan Cheiman, after he saw her miraculous story in the paper.

“There were tears and laughter and new friendships made. It was an emotional goodbye, but we couldn’t have asked for a better home for this gorgeous pooch who has touched so many hearts. Nathan fell in love with Nandi when he saw her story in the paper, and even though he lives in Joburg, he knew Nandi would make the perfect addition to his furry rescue family. So he quickly made a plan to have a home check done by his local SPCA, and was the first call to come through on the day.

“It is clear this was a match made in heaven. Inspector Lucas Moloi, Nandi’s rescuer, was overcome with emotion as he was so happy that his doggie soulmate will be living with such an amazing family. Nathan and the inspector have already swapped details and Inspector Moloi will be visiting next time he is in Joburg. This special dog has brought so much joy to so many people’s lives. We will miss her, but Nathan has promised to keep us updated,” she said.
