Tree collapses on Prospect Hall Road

No injuries following massive tree collapse in Durban North.

A MASSIVE tree has snapped and collapsed on Prospect Hall Road, forcing the parks department to close the road for a few hours while the limb is cut down into manageable pieces. A eThekwini Parks Department official who could not be named said he was unsure what caused the collapse.

“It’s a ficus tree and we not sure what caused the limb to snap off like that. We suspect the tree may be rotting but we have horticulturalists who are coming out to determine that. We doubt it was the wind but at this stage I cannot definitely say what happened.

“The guys are working on cutting the limb into smaller pieces and clearing the roadway. It should be fine within the next hour. From there, we’ll inspect the tree and make a decision on it. Thankfully no one was hurt in the collapse,” the official said.

Durban North isn’t new to collapsing trees, in March last year, a massive tree collapsed taking out three fences in the process.
