Water concerns loom over eMdloti’s festive season

eMdloti residents have expressed concerned over the impact the increase in demand brought by the holiday makers would have on their already restricted water supply.

WHILE eMdloti continues to battle through water restrictions residents have expressed concerned over the impact the increase in demand brought by the holiday makers would have on their water supply. Particular concern was expressed for Christmas day. Since November residents have faced daily water restrictions from 8am to 3pm.

Terry Rens of the eMdloti Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) said while some residents did not feel the impact of the restrictions, as they are at work throughout the majority of the time, others have been struggling to cope. She added that residents were particularly concerned about the water supply on Christmas Day.

“I have received numerous calls from residents asking whether restrictions will be implemented on Christmas Day,” she said.

Councillor Geoff Pullan confirmed that the city would continue with daily restrictions.

“I believe restrictions will be implemented on Christmas Day. While the recent rain has increased the water levels at Hazelmere Dam from 25 to 29 per cent the levels drop by a percentage per week,” he said.

Pullan and Rens once again urged residents to use water sparingly and to save up water for the Christmas festivities.
