Burglar leaps through window to evade arrest

A suspected house robber evaded arrest after he jumped through the window of a home in Umgeni Park.

IN a desperate attempt to evade authorities a would-be burglar leapt through the window of a home in Acutt Avenue in Umgeni Park earlier this afternoon. The suspect was being chased by Marshall Security patrollers following an attempted house robbery Collard Road.

Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said his team rushed to the Collard Road property after the domestic worker pressed the alarm. “She spotted the suspect and his accomplice trying to break into the property. But they fled as soon as she activated the panic button,” he said.

She had reportedly given the patrollers a description of the suspects, and the chase ensued.

“One of the suspects was spotted by our patrollers in the area, but he jumped over several fences and we lost track of him. He was later spotted by one of our clients walking into a neighbour’s property on Acutt Avenue. Our members responded and when they arrived at the scene the guy was in the neighbour’s house,” he said.

Patrollers secured the entrances in an attempt to arrest the suspect. With authorities closing in, the brazen suspect jumped through one of the windows and fled the scene.

Both men are still at large.
