Window thief strikes again

An armed thief is believed to be accosting residents in Greenwood Park.

POLICE believe that there is a ‘window thief’ targeting homes in the Greenwood Park area. This after several armed robberies using a similar modus operandi were reported to the Greenwood Park SAPS in recent weeks.

W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station, said, “While we are unable at this stage to confirm whether it is in fact the same individual or a gang operating in the area, the modus operandi is very similar.”

The suspect is said to break in through the window and when the homeowners inspect the commotion they are confronted by the armed thief.

The latest of these incidents occurred in the early hours of Friday morning. According to Audh, the victim was woken in his Briardene home at around 4am by a noise emanating from one of his windows.

“Upon investigation, he was confronted with a firearm being pointed at him through the window by an unknown male who then instructed him to remain silent. Two other males then forced his door open and ransacked his residence,” he said.

The three suspects then fled with two tablet computers, cash and the victim’s driver’s licence. The total value of items take was R6 000, confirmed Audh.

The first incident occurred in Quarry Hights on 7 November. The victim was also woken up in the early hours of the morning when the thief broke into his home. When the victim went to investigate, he was accosted by the armed suspect who fired in the direction of the victim and demanded that he handover a laptop and cell phones.
