Awesome snaps show mother nature vs fireworks

Prestondale photographer shows mother nature at its best.

WHILE much of the debate surrounding fireworks and their use wore on over social media last night, one resident took time to snap incredible photos of mother nature competing with firework displays in uMhlanga. Local resident, Nick Ferreira, said he drove around the area looking for the best location to snap the incredible photos.

“I had previously taken photos of lightning but this time I set myself a whole new challenge, to capture the power of the storm and the fireworks. I started taking photos at my home in Prestondale but then drove around Umhlanga searching for the best location,” he said.

“I have been very lucky to have had quite a bit of practice recently, photographing lightning requires a lot of patience and nine times out of 10 you’ll be taking a photo of one area and a massive bolt will strike just out of the picture. After a while you can almost get a sense for where the lightning is striking most and then you get the shots.”

Ferreira is well known in the area for capturing the striking images of last month’s powerful lightning storm and the huge swells in June, which saw waves reach the height of the M4 bridge.

He added he loved capturing the raw nature of the storm.

“I still love it, and last night was all that and more with the added challenge of the fireworks – capturing two different uncontrolled elements in one frame proved really difficult but was so stoked when it happened,” he said.
