Search is on for the ‘paw-fectly’ photogenic pets

Share the best snaps of your beloved photogenic critters with the Durban and Coast SPCA and you could spot them on the organisation's 2016 calendar.

FOR most people, animals have become an integral part of the family unit and as such they take up an equally big spot in our family albums and photo frames. We celebrate and try and capture those special moments with these beloved furry and, sometimes feathered, creatures.

Now the public has been urged to share their most beautiful ‘memories’ in aid of the Durban and Coast SPCA. Later this year, the animal organisation will release its first calendar in 12 years and has invited the public to submit photos of their photogenic pets to feature in the calendar.

So, dust off the sparkly collars, preen those feathers and wag those tails for the SPCA’s ‘Paws for the Camera‘ competition. Staff and volunteers are looking for top quality, visually stunning photos featuring people and their pets in their most beautiful, loving or wacky moments. From these entries the competition judges will choose the best 13 photos to feature on the organisation’s calendar. Entries cost R50 per photo.

Only photos of domestic animals (such as dogs, cats, horses and hamsters) will be accepted. Photos of wild or exotic animals are not eligible.

“We hope to see entries of happy, healthy and playful animals or photos of people spending time with their pets. It is all about celebrating the love between man and our ‘best friends’,” said SPCA marketing assistant, Lindsey Fogarty.

Proceeds from the calendar will be used by the organisation to continue with its efforts to help abused and abandoned animals. Enter here.

Competition rules:
– The public can enter as many entries as they wish.
– People are only allowed to submit original photographs.
– Images should be of print quality (minimum 2MB)
– Images must be landscape format
– Collages will not be eligible to win
– The competition closes at 12 noon on Friday, 30 October
