Support HOLAH High Tea

High tea to be used as a fundraiser for baby home.

HOLAH (House of Love and Hope) will host a high tea on Saturday, 24 October at Grace Riverside Church on Anthony Road. The fundraiser will also feature entertainment from Lisa Bobbert, pop-up stores and a raffle. Bobbert said the idea to host a fundraiser came to her while she was doing a course through the church about community projects.

“One of the other ladies knew about HOLAH, which provides a safe and loving haven for abandoned/orphaned babies. Initially it started out as a project to raise funds for a sleeper couch, but it just snowballed from there. Through the first fundraiser two years ago we raised R10 000 for the home and it was such an awesome success. We are hoping this week’s event will be well-supported by the local community.

“There will also be a guest speaker spreading the word about adoption. So many people see adoption as a last resort and it shouldn’t be that way. I think that it is part of a South African’s calling to follow in the vision of Nelson Mandela’s rainbow nation – what better way to start than by starting at home?” she asked.

HOLAH, which is run by Kim Brown and Leanne Lorrance, echoed Bobbert’s thoughts.

“Our goal is to make sure every child that we help has a family. Our first fundraiser was just fantastic, especially as it highlighted the importance of adoption, and I urge residents to come out and support the event,” Lorrance said.

There will be a few pop-up flea market stalls before it starts and some live music, then high tea treats. Lisa Bobbert will be entertaining and Leanne Lorrance will do a talk about the baby house and what they do. There will also be a guest speaker, Cara Reilly, talking about adoption. Each guest will also get a cappuccino from Fig Tree, the coffee shop run by the church.

  • The event takes place on Saturday, 24 October (9am for 9:30am) at Grace Riverside Church in Durban North. Tickets are R100 per person. E-mail Bianca to book on biancathayer@yahoo.co.uk. All proceeds will go towards the HOLAH Baby House.
