R37 000 taken in daring uMhlanga restaurant robbery

Police are still searching for the men who pulled off a daring robbery in broad daylight on Monday.

MORE details have emerged after yesterday’s daring midday robbery at the popular seafood restaurant, Ocean Basket, on Lagoon Drive. Police are still searching for the suspects who made off with R37 000 in cash as well as other items belonging to staff members.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, three men entered the restaurant around midday on Monday.

“The men split up in different directions. One of the suspects then pulled out a firearm and approached the manageress and demanded to know where the cash was. He then made the staff lie face down on the floor while his accomplices riffled through their pockets and took their wallets and cellphones.

“The armed suspect then took R35 000 from the safe and one of the staff members was also robbed of R2 000 in cash. The men then fled on foot and we believe they may have been picked up by a getaway vehicle. One restaurant patron was also robbed of a cellphone,” he said.

No arrests have yet been made.
