Suspect caught with stolen loot in Durban North

The suspect was arrested after he was spotted by a security officer brazenly walking down the road with a stolen television.

A SUSPECTED robber’s luck ran out yesterday when he was caught brazenly walking down Gainsborough Drive in Durban North carrying a stolen television.

The man was reportedly arrested after he was spotted by a security officer for the Burndale street-patrol. The crime fighter alerted Marshal Security and continued to observe the suspect until the reaction officers arrived, said Tyron Powell.

“When apprehended the suspect was found in possession of a 32” LCD television, its remote and a cell phone. At first he claimed that he had found the television set on the side of the road. However our Street-Patrol Area Manager recognised him from CCTV footage of a trespassing incident a week ago,” added Powell.

The footage shows how an intruder, matching the suspect’s description, trespassing on a Portland Crescent property  last week. However, the owner did not report anything missing or stolen, confirmed Powell.

“While en-route to Portland Crescent yesterday morning, the suspect admitted to trespassing on that property last week. He also pointed out the house in Gainsborough Drive, the scene of the housebreaking and theft of the stolen goods in his possession,” said Powell.

Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene and transported the suspect to the police station.
