GWP warn of spike in business vehicle theft

Local police station say Kia 2.7 (1.5 ton) and Hyundai H100 trucks are being targeted by criminals.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS has urged residents, especially owners of Kia 2.7 (1.5 ton) and Hyundai H100 trucks which have become the target of thefts in recent months. Spokesman for the GWP SAPS, Warrant officer, Leon Audh, said the thefts weren’t limited to specific areas and mainly targeted business owners.

Though he didn’t offer any figures, Audh said there had been a spike in thefts of the vehicles.

“We urge owners of these vehicles to please be careful where they park their trucks and take the necessary steps in ensuring the security of their vehicles. These thefts are occurring in all areas and and all precautionary measures should be taken to minimize the risk.

“These types of trucks are frequently used to conduct business, drivers of these vehicles are advised to park their vehicles where it is visible to them at all times or in a gated establishment,” he said.
