‘Golden’ support from Rotary Club

Rotary Club of Durban North made a generous donation to the Golden Hours School in Durban Northm worth R178 000.

THE Rotary Club of Durban North recently donated a refurbished electric scooter to Golden Hours School in Durban North. The scooter will be used mainly in the hostel area.

In addition, the club also donated about R178 000 to the school, which was used to buy some much-needed furniture for the hostel.

“We care for 62 kids in our hostel and our furniture had become old and tattered, so the Rotary Club stepped in and made the generous donation to assist us. We have bought some cupboards and beds with the donated funds. Their support has been incredible, when I took over as the principal in January they knocked on our door and have not left our side,” said Rowan Hornby.

Golden Hours School also submitted a wishlist to the Rotary Club of Durban North a couple of weeks ago, listing some of the items it was in desperate need of. With the assistance of Kerry Haylett and the Durban North Neighbours Facebook group, they were able to fulfill some of the school’s wishes. Fabric, children’s games, a television and computer monitor were gladly accepted by the school.

Some of the items that the school is still in need of include educational toys, chalkboards, puzzles, a CD player, balls, wooden puzzles, any cotton material, a DVD player, fabric paint, a felt board, a television, second-hand bicycles, spades and a wheelbarrow.

“Good quality second-hand donations make a world of difference to the lives of the children we care for,” added Hornby.
