Glenashley crash victim was a cop

The victim, a police officer, was killed after losing control of his vehicle.

THE motorist killed in a car crash in Glenashley late on Thursday evening has been identified as a 29-year-old constable stationed at Verulam SAPS.  Durban North SAPS spokesman, Lt Raymond Deokaran, said they are withholding the officer’s name out of respect for the victim’s family.

“The officer, who was off duty, was on his way home when the accident occurred. It’s alleged he had an altercation with his friends at a braai at Blue Lagoon before leaving the scene and allegedly losing control of his vehicle and crashing,” he said.

The accident occurred on Park Drive and, according to paramedics, the man had died from his extensive injuries.

“When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the severely crumpled remains of the vehicle, which had come to rest on the verge, with a critically injured man still seated in the vehicle. Tragically, after medics examined the patient, it was found that he had died due to the extensive injuries that he sustained,” Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesman said.
