Woman held captive and raped repeatedly

A 23-year-old woman was kidnapped, held captive and raped repeatedly by her ex-boyfriend over the course of the weekend.

A YOUNG woman was held captive and raped repeatedly over the course of three days by her ex-boyfriend. This happened during Women’s Month, highlighting the prevalence of women being abused by their partners or former partners.

On Wednesday, 19 August the victim (23) was out with friends when they were approached by her ex. The 27-year-old reportedly offered them a lift home, and the group, not feeling threatened, accepted his offer, said W/O Leon Audh of Greenwood Park SAPS.

He dropped off her friends and then drove her to his home in Red Hill, against her will, added Audh.

There he is said to have physically abused and sexually assaulted her over the course of three days – keeping her locked up in his bedroom.

“Finally the victim managed to get hold of the suspect’s cellphone while he was bathing and alerted her sister, who in turn contacted the Greenwood Park SAPS,” said Audh.

Authorities immediately mobilised a task team and raced to the scene on Sunday. They cordoned off the perimeter and swooped in on the premises.

The suspect tried to flee but was apprehended by the police. He was detained at the Greenwood Park station and appeared in court on 25 August.

A case of kidnapping and rape has been opened at the station.
