Hope blossoms with spring fundraiser

The annual Bags and Blossoms Spring High Tea, to be held in the Sibaya Casino Conference Centre on Tuesday, 8 September, aims to raise funds for various organisations that the club supports.

SPRING is around the corner and with it comes the annual spring fundraiser of local NPO, the 31 Club.

The 31 Club is a registered non-profit organisation formed in 1962 by a group of women under the chairmanship of Norma Rattray. The group strives to raise funds for various organisation and charities in KwaZulu- Natal (KZN). As the group consisted of 31 volunteers, the club was named accordingly, and membership remains at a maximum of 31 members who work on a regular voluntary basis.

Currently the club is co-chaired by Mount Edgecombe residents, Lana Titmas and Monika Davies.

The annual Bags and Blossoms Spring High Tea, to be held in the Sibaya Casino Conference Centre on Tuesday, 8 September at 10am, aims to raise funds for various organisations that the club supports.

Last year the NPO raised R70 000 at the event. A large portion of the club’s funds are used to promote education, while the rest is donated towards 49 organisations within the greater Durban area, including the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, CHOC, I Care, Highway Hospice, Durban and Coast SPCA and Open Door Crisis Centre.

Tanya Visser, the editor of The Gardener magazine, will present a talk at the event. Guests will also be able to ‘bedazzle’ their handbags at the event.

“The ladies of the 31 Club have realised what a great need there is for charities in the KZN region. Most of them are struggling for funding and government is not able to give some of them what they received in the past. We love being able to put our skills, talents and hearts to the test by working on several different and exciting events throughout the year to be enjoyed by the general public, while at the same time creating awareness and instilling empathy in our guests. The high tea is in its second year now and was thoroughly enjoyed by nearly 300 enthusiastic ladies last year. We hope to have as many or more attendees this year,” said Titmas.
