Search to find Greenwood Park SAPS’s first Junior Commissioner

Only one pupil from schools in the Greenwood Park area, who showcase exceptional passion and aptitude, will be selected to represent the police station at a crime prevention level.

GREENWOOD Park police recently embarked on a new project to tackle crime prevention among youth in the area through the Junior Station Commissioner project.

Pupils from four local schools will be competing against each other for the highly-coveted title. Four pupils from Parkhill Secondary School, Avoca Secondary School, Effingham Secondary School and Sea Cow Lake Secondary School (from Grade 8 to 10) battled through an internal selection process to compete in the semi-finals.

Only one pupil who showcased exceptional passion and aptitude will be selected to represent the station. Last week the station held the semi-finals at Parkhill Secondary School.

The winner, who will be selected at the finals on Wednesday, will be required to act as an ambassador for the youth in the area. He or she will assist police in crime prevention strategies by communicating with fellow learners regarding crime.

“I am personally very excited about the initiative. It is often difficult for police to communicate with the youth regarding crime and crime prevention. The Junior Commissioner will be able to relate and better talk to his or her peers about the issues and to gather information regarding illegal activities,” said W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park station.

Competitors will be judged based on their opinions, values, level of empathy, persuasive language skills, body language, and knowledge regarding crime and related issues.
