Cashier assaulted in armed robbery

After assaulting the cashier and robbing the service station the brazen men allegedly targeted a innocent pedestrian, nabbing her cell phone and cash.

EMPLOYEES and patrons are still reeling from shock after six armed men stormed a petrol station on North Coast Road in Avoca last night. Before robbing the station they assaulted one of the cashiers.

Four of the men are said to have entered the service station, where they held the cashiers and patrons at gunpoint. The other two suspects remained outside where they subdued the petrol attendants, said Brian Jackson, operations manager of Blue Security.
Meanwhile, inside the station, the four armed men ordered one of the cashiers to open the till. When he refused he was ‘pistol-whipped’ (hit on the head with the butt of the firearm) and forced to open the till. W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS said the men grabbed R2 000 from the till as well as an undisclosed number of boxes of cigarettes from behind the till.
Jackson added that the suspects also targeted a woman, believed to be a pedestrian, who was passing the scene, robbing her of her cell phone and cash.
The men fled in a white Quantum taxi. No arrests have been made.
Audh urged residents with information to come forward. Contact the station on 031 571 6517.
