Suspect shot dead in uMgeni Park

One of the suspects involved in the house break-in tried to stab a security officer.

A SUSPECT believed to have been involved in a house break-in in uMgeni Park has been shot dead. The suspect had attempted to stab a Marshall Security response officer during the incident. A second suspect, also armed, was wounded after being interrupted by the officer. According to Tyron Powell, the men had targeted a home on Hillbrow Road this afternoon.

“There were three suspects altogether, two of whom were armed with guns, while the third had a knife. When our officer arrived on scene he spotted movement near the side of the house. As he approached the suspects on foot, they confronted him and attacked him. The suspect with the knife attempted to stab him but luckily his bullet-proof vest deflected the attack.

“A scuffle then broke out and the knife-wielding suspect was shot and fatally wounded, while a second suspect was also shot and injured in the altercation. The stolen items were also recovered outside a window at the side of the house where our patrol officer first saw the suspects,” Powell said.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha confirmed the man had died before paramedics arrived.

“He had passed away before our arrival due to the extensive injuries that he sustained.”
