Robbers tie up uMhlanga guard with shoelaces

Robbers subdued the guard at gunpoint, tied him up and ransacked the business premises before fleeing the scene.

AN uMhlanga security guard was forced to ‘wriggle’ his way to freedom in the early hours of Tuesday morning after four armed men accosted him and tied him up in the Ridgeside Office Park.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran of Durban North SAPS, the guard was approached by four armed men at around 6am.

“They asked him if anyone else was on the premises, but before he could answer they produced firearms and forced him into the building at gunpoint and tied him up with his shoelaces,” he said.

The suspects reportedly snatched four laptops as well as their victim’s cellphone before fleeing the scene in a red VW Polo.

While no shots were fired, the security guard was left traumatised by the incident, said Deokaran.

“He managed to wriggle free and contacted the control room to inform them of the incident,” he added.
