Woman dies after falling into escalator: Video
A woman died after saving her child while being swallowed by an escalator.
SECURITY camera footage has emerged of a mother saving her young son’s life just seconds before losing her own on an escalator at a shopping mall in China.
The 30-second video shows a metal panel at the top of the escalator giving way, causing the woman and her toddler to stumble.
The woman, who has been named as Xiang Liujuan (30), falls in, struggles to free herself from the metal structure and is seen pushing her son forward. The boy is quickly pulled to safety by a mall employee standing near the top of the escalator.
Despite a four-hour rescue operation, firefighters declared Xiang dead when they finally cut the escalator open and found her body on Sunday afternoon.
The accident comes just days after a Euan Hird, a 6-year-old boy, had his foot trapped in an escalator at the Gateway Theater of Shopping recently. He is currently recovering and is high spirits, according to his dad.
