Gun stolen in uMhlanga smash-and-grab

This is the sixth smash-and-grab on N2/M4 interchange since December.

THERE has been yet another smash-and-grab on the now notorious N2/M41 interchange (going towards Gateway). Six cases have been reported since December last year, while there were 15 smash-and-grabs in the same area reported on by Northglen News.  In the latest incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, a man had his bag, which contained his gun, stolen from his passenger seat.

“The man said he stopped at the traffic lights at about 2.40am and saw a man come up to his window to beg. He then heard a smash on the passenger side of his car and saw another man reaching in, grabbing his bag and running in the direction of the construction site,” explained Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

“The bag contained a 9mm Parabellum gun as well as a loaded magazine. His wallet, with an undisclosed amount of cash in, was taken in the incident. We are again appealing to motorists not to leave goods lying on the seats of their cars and to be extremely vigilant when driving through the area. Car floors and seats are not good places to leave items,” he warned.

Deokaran believes a spark plug was used in the incident.
