Beach outing mixes education and fun

Join the eMdloti UIP for a fun family outing and an opportunity to interact with the various critters that can be found along the shoreline.

CONSERVATION will be taking centre stage at the eMdloti Urban Improvement Precinct’s (UIP) Springtide Marine Treasure Hunt on Saturday, 4 July.

The aim of the event is not only to highlight the importance and efforts of the UIP, but also to shed some light on the tiny treasures that can be found along the rocky shores of the tiny beach town.

From 10am to 12pm on Saturday the community is urged to join the UIP for a fun family beach outing where they will be exploring the rock pools.

While educating the community on conservation, the event will also teach them about the tiny creatures that live along the shore line.

“It’s all about making education fun. So many people who live right on the shores don’t know about the wonderful creatures on our doorstep, such as sea slugs, urchins and sea anemones. Here they will have the chance to not only learn about them, but also hold them in their hands,” said Tracy Simkiss of the eMdloti UIP.

Interested parties will meet at the bottom of 6th Avenue. Take along sunblock, sun hats, drinking water and some kiddies’ fishing nets.
