R50 000 taken in La Lucia armed robbery

Armed suspects robbed a man in an undercover parking lot at a local mall.

A MAN was held up and robbed of R50 000 in the undercover parking of La Lucia Mall by two men, one of whom was armed. The incident occurred at about 11am on Wednesday morning, according to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

“The man was sorting through his banking documents when he noticed a suspicious vehicle park next to him. In seconds, one of the suspects pulled out at a firearm and pointed it at the man. He was told not to move. A second suspect then walked over to the passenger window, making sure nobody was watching.

“One of the suspects opened the door and took R50 000 and his cellphone. They then jumped back into their getaway vehicle, a bronze Peugeot, and fled the scene,” he explained.

The armed robbery was one of two incidents yesterday. A man using the Standard Bank on Millennium Boulevard in uMhlanga was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash as well as his firearm.

“As he was walking towards the bank he noticed two men in a white Mercedes pull up. Both of them jumped out, pointing their firearms at him. They took a bag off his shoulder, which contained the cash and a gun,” he said.

The incident occurred 40 minutes before the La Lucia Mall robbery, with two different cars used in the armed robberies.
